Dr. Michelle Joaquin:

Picture
I am the Founder of Stress & Trauma Evaluative Psych Services (STEPS). I am a bilingual/bicultural, and highly experienced NY USA (025254), CA USA (34048) and Ontario Canada (4066340)  licensed psychologist. I am a Latina with a decade of experience providing therapy services and I come from a strong training background. I have been trained in various therapeutic modalities. My approach is integrative because I use different therapeutic styles according to the client's needs. However, I have been trained in the following: attachment-based, trauma-focused, cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic interventions. I treat various concerns, such as anxiety and depression. Specifically, I specialize in helping individuals with a history of trauma and adverse childhood experiences.

I offer treatment in-person or virtually to make therapy more accessible to individuals with busy lives. Online therapy has helped millions as research has shown that online therapy is also highly effective. Don't let a long commute stop you from accessing the help you need. Get treatment online! Through my collaborative approach, I can help you gain insight into the root of the problem in order to alleviate what causes you stress.

Professionally, I earned my doctoral degree at Yeshiva University.  I completed my APA-accredited internship at the University of Southern California (USC) UCEDD at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). I also participated in one year of postdoctoral training at USC UCEDD CHLA. In addition, I have successfully worked and/or completed practicums at:
  • Beth Israel Hospital Chemical Dependency Treatment Program
  • Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research
  • Hispanic Family Mental Health Center
  • Montefiore Medical Center - Group Attachment Based Intervention (GABI)
  • Montefiore Medical Center of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine: Pediatric Behavioral Health Integration Program
  • Mt Sinai St. Luke’s: Comprehensive Adolescent Rehabilitation & Education Service (CARES)
  • Safe Horizon – Brooklyn Child Advocacy Center
  • Yale University Medical School

I am a part of the Professional Practice American Psychological Association (APA) Division 29: Society for the Advancement of Psychotherapy committee. I also served as the 2023-2025 committee chair on the Early Career Psychologist (ECP) committee of APA Division 29.
